Bloody Crikey - Now That's a Start

If you're going to have a famous song, it helps if you start with an absolute killer of a first line. For example, some songs have a first line that just sets the tone for everything that follows. AND before anyone tries to be clever and say this is the Gothic music collection, it's not - but Goth did have fun pissing around with his Muppet 3 for a while.

So for those of you with nothing better to do, song title and original artists please ;-)

  1. "I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today"
  2. "Born down in a dead mans town"
  3. "Today is gonna be the day but they're gonna throw it back to you"
  4. "Load up on guns, bring your friends, it's fun and easy to pretend"
  5. "I would have given you all of my heart but there's someone who's torn it apart"
  6. "Theres a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold"
  7. "She's got a smile that it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories"
  8. "I was born, in a crossfire hurricane"
  9. "I can't believe the news today, I can't close my eyes and make it go away"
  10. "Guess who just got back today, them wild eyed boys who've been away"
  11. "There's no point in asking, you'll get no reply"
  12. "Life, is bigger, it's bigger than you and you are not me"
  13. "We all came out to Montreaux, on the lake Geneva shore"
  14. "Tommy used to work on the docks, union went on strike, he's down on his luck"

Or you can suggest your own.....but, it has to be well known and just the first line

More seriously:
"I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste, a flannel for my face..."
I could have hours of fun doing this, am I allowed?
"Once I was afraid, I was petrified... to think that I could never live without you by my side..."

Got them all, as you would expect, bar number 4.

Pat -> very apt

JG -> indeed for the two of them

Sewmouse -> the animals, but I think you'll find it's past tense now and as for Gloria, I assume you like karaoke?

JG -> don't know the song but some idiots hopping around with a flute I think

Lynx -> very good but original was Cat Stevens

As for yours:-

Queen - Killer Queen
Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
Springsteen I think
Dylan - All Along the Watchtower
Fuck knows up to
Boomtown Rats - I don't Like Mondays
Carpenters - Close to You (although I'm not sure if Burt recorded it first, I know he wrote it)
Beach Boys - Surfin USA
Joan Armatrading - Love and Affection
don't know
Righteous Brothers - Loving Feeling

Ariel -> don't know the first, the second is obviously Queen and as for the Shite Girls - grrrrrrr

and not bloody Gaynor again

Pat -> The Jackson Five? oh dear. As for the others, they were back in the days of 78's I think

Wrath of Dawn -> You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - The Beatles but the second one??

Tom -> Pink Floyd - Money and the third one is Paul Simon but can't remember the song

Tippler -> the joys of answering before reading someone elses answers eh? and yours is the Doors

Laura -> I fucking hate Oasis, that's why

Anónimo dijo...

Goth:

Money - Pink Floyd
Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
Call Me Al -Paul Simon
Mother's Little Helper - The Stones

Unknown dijo...

Goth, 'YES', Wonderous stories, off Going for the one.

Daphne Wayne-Bough dijo...

"We'll gather lilacs in the spring again ..."

"Je t'aime, je t'aime, oh oui je t'aime, moi non plus ..."

"The hills are alive ..."

Anónimo dijo...

Goth, I think I'm too young to remember the Cat Stevens version, and I'm not a big Sex Pistols fan. You were right that it's Springsteen, Born to Run. The ones you missed were Carly Simon (You're so Vain) and Terrence Trent D'Arby (Wishing Well).

Daphne, you need to get Tippler to see the film for your last suggestion. I can lend you the DVD, and I'm sure you can entrap and suitably restrain him while he watches it.

Chris King dijo...

Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short...

SpanishGoth dijo...

Tom -> The sad thing is I've got them all except the Paul Simon one

JG -> I was thinking of Yes but got confused with that Anderson twit

Daphne -> I SOOOO do not want to see your record collection - but the last one was a horror movie wasn't it?

Lynx -> Only know as I have the guitar tab for it - Carly Simon song about Warren Beatty I believe, and as for Terry and his Darby.....

Chopski -> don't know but it sounds like a Maiden intro, possibly from the Killer album?

Unknown dijo...

Goth, you're thinking of Jethro Tull!

SpanishGoth dijo...

JG -> but Wakeman does such a good impression of him (not behind the keyboard, but at the backstage parties)

Tippler dijo...

There is no fucking way I am EVER watching the Sound of Music.

That would be 'ever'.

SpanishGoth dijo...

Tippler -> Julie Andrews gets naked

oh, that's the OTHER film

Chris King dijo...

It was Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast!

SpanishGoth dijo...

Chopski - I've only got the live version but I thought it sounded familiar

yorlor dijo...

okay - somewhere in there someone missed "nothing compares 2 u" [this was pre-texting america, BTW] by the shaved headed one.
walking into the party like you're walking on a yacht -- wasn't that "you're so vain" by carly simon? [wow, i miss lips like those]

SpanishGoth dijo...

Yorlor -> fucking shit song sung by a lesbian, written by inch-high private eye and as for the monkees????

However, you are forgiven for mentioning the Black Crowes - She Talks To Angels (fuck, have to go and find it on the muppet-3 now)

Mr Farty -> For fucks sake man, 3 of 14 - you are the weakest link - goodbye

yorlor dijo...

woah, amigo!!
what is all this hostility? they weren't even your songs... chill, buddy. [winks]
i don't know jack about the private eye and i can give a rats ass about who sinead fucks. the point was the song and the artist.

of course i won your favor in the end. minor talent i have. minor.

SpanishGoth dijo...

Yorlor -> It's not hostility, it's just me. Inch high, private eye was a cartoon - see here

As for Skinhead, I like lesbians - I'm trying really hard to be one - even taken up tennis.

For everything else, welcome to the jungle baby, we have fun and games

*pours another glass of Jack Daniels and sits waiting*

yorlor dijo...
